Here Comes the Sun

April 3, 2011
The next morning we got up super early to head over to Dresden, Germany.  The bus ride was about 3 hours so not too bad.  It was pretty early so I was planning on sleeping the whole time! Once we got there we were told we had a little over 4 hours to explore the city.  Dresden is one of the largest cultural capitals of Europe.  The city was completely destroyed by the controversial Allied aerial bombing towards the end of World War II so the monuments and buildings we saw were replicas of what had been there before the bombing.  We walked around a lot and saw the Katholische Hofkirche, the Semperoper, and the Dresdner Frauenkirche.  The weather here was SO warm it felt amazing! We didn't have a guide showing us where to go so we just wandered around.  I tried bratwurst for the first time and absolutely LOVED it! No wonder people eat it all the time! Here are some pictures of things we saw/did:

Eating some Blueberry and Vanilla Ice cream! It was
soooo freaking good!

We stumbled upon the coolest park ever! It had huge slides, swings, and a trampoline!
I could have stayed there all day but the rest of the girls wanted to keep
exploring! What can I say? I love swinging!
This was a group of kids from a private school taking a tour, I dunno about you
but when I saw them walking around I immediately thought
they looked like the Gryffindor quidditch team in their red uniforms!

To the left is a picture of a really shiny statue... not really sure what the importance of it is but it looked really cool! To the right we have yet another castle! They really are everywhere.
This mosaic took up the whole wall all the
way down the street! It was pretty neat.
After walking around for a long time our feet
started to get really tired so we crossed the bridge to the other side and found a grassy area to just sit and relax. This was our gorgeous view of Dresden.  There were so many people out having picnics, roller skating, riding bikes, and relaxing.
After sitting for a while we headed back to the bus to head back to Prague.  Dresden was really cool. I'm sad we only had a few hours to explore but it still was a lot of fun!  I will miss the beautiful weather!

  1. I'm glad you stumbled upon the great taste of bratwurst. We'll grill some when you return.
